Local artist Shaun Goffe creates bold, monochrome pen and ink sketches of well-known Henley scenes. We catch up with him just in time for Regatta.
Tell us about your background and what you do.
Art has always been my passion. I can remember pictures and where I first saw them rather than game leagues and scores.
I have always been up to my elbows in art in some way or other, sketching trees between lectures, screen printing around the kids, graphic design for companies and web building for friends.

What made you decide to start your creative business?
I don’t think I had a choice; it was in me and just had to be expressed.
Then of course you realise there’s lots of non-arty bits to running an art business, like finance and stock control. I make sure the drawing doesn’t take a back seat. It’s my meditation but with sketching, I get to pin the results on the fridge.

Where do you find inspiration?
In nature, in architecture, in light and dark. I think I see differently from other people, I certainly think in pictures. I can rarely explain something without picking up a pencil or whiteboard marker to draw out the point.
What have been the highs and lows so far?
I’m always excited to discover something new, see something in a way I’ve never seen it before or do anything a different way. Like this feature; I hope you’ve never read another one like it.
How would you describe your 'style’?
Bold, masculine, demanding attention. I actually wish I could do quiet, introspection but that’s not me. My best work is always very graphic, I love mixing fonts and shapes and tone in composition.
Best nugget of wisdom?
Be yourself. I’m best when I care for and respect everything around me. I’m my best when I’m interested in others and what they’re doing.
How can people find out more?
Take a look at my website, come along to one of my shows . . or should the answer be ‘take a look at the Creative Duck’s online shop’! ?
